Excellence Scholarship in Social Science
About the scholarship:
Egypt needs researchers interested in applying
the lens of science to our most pressing societal
problems. This has inspired two senior academics,
Dr. Abdel Hamid Abdel Latif & Dr. Saad Eddin Ibrahim,
to establish a PhD scholarship to encourage the next
generation of researchers in the social sciences.
Each year highly motivated doctoral students
will benefit from mentoring, scientific training and
financial support to complete and advance their
doctoral dissertation.
Applications are reviewed & evaluated by
a committee of academics specialized in
the social sciences.
Administering the scholarship:
The Egyptian Research and Training Center
is the administrative sponsor of the scholarship.
It is an independent center established in 2000
which aims to provide academic researchers,
policy makers, business leaders, non-governmental
organizations, and others with reliable, accurate
information regarding public opinion, as well as
behaviors and attitudes that influence public life.

Distinguished Professor of Sociology (AUC)
Chairman, Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies.
Scholarship features:
– Tuition fees for two years.
– Expenses related to data analysis or field work
for the dissertation.
– Editing and printing costs.
– Individual mentoring, including training on
methodology and analytic tools appropriate
for each study.
– All applicants will be invited to a workshop
on data analysis.
Application Requirements:
1- Researcher’s CV
2- Personal photo.
3- University certificates.
4- Copy of the masters thesis.
5- Certificate of successful completion
of the first post-MA year.
6- Letter of recommendation from the primary
supervisor.
7- Research plan, not exceeding 5000 words.
8- PhD registration at a national university.
9- Submissions should be made online,
including photos of official documents.
Eligibility conditions:
1- Residence in the Arab Republic of Egypt
during the grant period.
2- Less than 36 years old at the time of
application.
3- It must not have been more than 3 years
from the date of registration.
4- Specializing in the broad field of political
sociology or cultural sociology.
5- Should not have received any other
doctoral scholarship.
Important dates:
• Applications for the scholarship open in
March each year.
• Applications for the scholarship close in
June each year.
• Scholarship awardees will be announced
in November each year.
